Second Wave of Corona during 2021

Second Wave of Corona during 2021
  • COVID-19 or commonly known as Coronavirus all around the world is a very fast infecting virus recently discovered by scientists at the end of the year 2019.
  • On October 9, 2020, there were more than 350,000 reported cases to WHO worldwide. The record shows that one-third of the cases were from Europe which was almost 109,000. One day India had reported 73,000 active cases over 24 hours. After one year the number of active cases was more than 81 million and 1.6 or 1.7 million people were dead because of COVID-19.
  • India’s curve of COVID-19 had its lower level in mid of February. But the second wave of COVID-19 hit the country and took its speed in March 2021 and maybe more dangerous than the first. On March 7, it’s reported that in the last few days there’s been an increase in cases of almost 18,000. Firstly, the second wave affected only Punjab and Maharashtra. In Maharashtra and Punjab cases are around 10,000 and 1,000 in a couple of days respectively. But now it’s spreading in all states such as Delhi which reported more than 300 cases in few days, as there were very low cases in January. In Gujarat, the cases in two days are more than 500 which has not happened since January. Very similar results can be seen in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana. All these states had a low count of cases in January but it rises in March. Maharashtra has its cases count more because there are not doing the screening properly who are coming from other states. Mainly UP, Bihar, West Bengal, and Assam have elections at their peak but the case count is low.

Serious symptoms for COVID-19:

  • Pressure or pain in the chest.
  • Difficulty in movement.
  • Shortness in breathing.

Persons suffering from these symptoms should seek medical treatment immediately. A person gets the symptoms mostly within 14 days of infection. Older people and people suffering from many diseases like diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases, vascular diseases, and cancer are likely to have bad illnesses. Mostly it’s infected through the saliva of the infected person from the mouth or nose.

Some preventive measures are:

1) Always wear a mask.

2) Sneeze into a flexed elbow covering your mouth and nose.

3) Maintain a distance of almost 1 meter from every person.

4) Always wash hands or use sanitizer to avoid spreading the virus.

5) Avoid smoking because it weakens the lungs.

Vaccines for COVID-19:

There are mainly four types of vaccines which are mRNA vaccine, Vector vaccine, PROTEIN SUBUNIT vaccine, and WHOLE, KILLED vaccine.

You can use this quote for COVID-19, “what we know is a drop, what we don’t know is an ocean” by Isaac Newton. This quote is very similar as we don’t know how it started, or how complicated it will become, or when this pandemic will end? There’s a whole lot of questions like this which we don’t know so far. These questions would keep the public health department and virologists busy for a long time.
